Early industrial activity in Nottinghamshire centred around the Erewash valley and the activitiies of the Butterley company. The county contained some of the richest coal seams in England and these were worked for several hundred years including extensive new mines sunk by the National Coal Board. The book includes the areas around Worksop, Retford, Bevercotes, Mansfield, Eastwood, Newark, Babbington, Gedling, Nottingham and Gotham. The book contains a comprehensive selection of 95 interesting black and white photographs.
