La traction mecanique sur berge en France by Gerard Bianchi
Les Cahiers du Musee de la Batallerie £20
One of the largest narrow gauge railway systems in France was the canal haulage systems that were in use over many parts of the country. We now have a French language book on this subject and this gives many details, photos and small maps on all the railways. Although the text is in French the photos show the full range of the systems. Apart from railways the haulage systems used many other forms of propulsion - horse, internal combustion cars and purpose built vehicles. There are some very unusual electric 'road' units that take power via an overhead pick up. Even half track vehicles were used.
