The Derwent Valley Light Railway became Britain's last surviving independent standard gauge pre-grouping Light Railway. The book features over 290 photographs both colour and black and white, most never published in book form before, with easy to follow colour maps and plans, as well as ephemera. It tells the story of the railway from its origins right up to the present day, including the role it played in World War Two. There are also sections on the locomotives, including some pioneering forms of motive power, and rolling stock. Those that worked on the line are also featured, as well as the revival of one section of the railway as an operating entity once more.
